The legacy of LOS ÁNGELES AZULES is being celebrated with a street named in their honor in Los Angeles, California: LOS ÁNGELES AZULES SQUARE
by Los Ángeles Azules August 12, 2026
It is located at the intersection of Van Nuys Blvd. and Chase St.
Los Ángeles Azules continues to break barriers, and this time they’re adding what will be one of the most important moments of their career: District 6 Councilwoman Imelda Padilla will host a ceremony on September 14 to name the intersection of Van Nuys Blvd. and Chase St. “Los Ángeles Azules Square,” paying tribute to the internationally acclaimed cumbia group ahead of Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month.
The ceremony will be led by District 6 Councilwoman Imelda Padilla and will take place as part of the kickoff of Latin/Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, highlighting the profound influence of Los Ángeles Azules and Mexican music on Los Angeles’ cultural identity.
Los Ángeles Azules are known for bringing the cumbia genre to stages around the world, including the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico City.
“For Los Ángeles Azules, it is a tremendous honor to receive this recognition from the City of Los Angeles. The fact that the iconic corner of Van Nuys Blvd. and Chase Street in Panorama City bears our name means much more than a tribute to our career: it is a symbol of the deep bond we have built over so many years with this city, with the Latino community, and with the families who have made our music a part of their lives.
“We were proudly born in Iztapalapa, and we have been immensely fortunate that, through our music, we have been embraced in other parts of the world. Without a doubt, the City of Los Angeles holds enormous significance for us and will always remain deep in our hearts. Here we have found generations of fans who have welcomed us with warmth, danced to our cumbia, and passed it down from parents to children, making it part of the cultural history of this great city.”
“We accept this honor with emotion, pride, and deep gratitude. Our thanks go to the City of Los Angeles and, in particular, to District 6 Councilwoman Imelda Padilla, for championing and making this tribute possible, and for joining us in celebrating Mexican music and culture, which, over the years, have united so many communities and transcended borders”:Los Ángeles Azules.
This recognition celebrates the band’s decades of musical influence in this popular destination located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. The ceremony will include a tour of Plaza Del Valle, the unveiling of the band members’ handprints cast in concrete, followed by an awards ceremony and the presentation of works of art, as well as remarks by Councilwoman Padilla, Mayor Karen Bass, community leaders, and representatives of the band.
Los Ángeles Azules is the world’s leading cumbia group and is described as a driving force in modern Latin music. This tribute is taking place as Councilwoman Imelda Padilla (District 6) serves as host and patron of this year’s Latin Heritage Month celebration, recognizing the contributions that Latinos have made to the culture and identity of Los Angeles, both now and for future generations.
